Hello. I really like metal music. But at the same time, I am incredibly picky about metal music (especially instrumental metal music). So, today here is kinda exclusion of the rules and a pretty rare thing — an instrumental metal track. Here is Andrew Brockerhoff — post-metal / sludge music artist from the United States, and his track “The Hungering Altar”. Let’s check it!
Since the artist tagged his music with “post-metal” and “sludge” tags, I tagged the track in the same way. But I think, it sounds more like a mix of post-metal, progressive metal, death metal, and even a bit of djent (maybe because of the baritone guitar and the sound). Of course, it’s up to my subjective taste. Anyways, the track sounds great! The most difficult thing in writing this kind of music is not to be boring. And this track nailed this task.
I am listening to it around 10 times in a row already, and it still sounds fresh to me. Very nice guitar technique and melodic riffs. I like when music sounds melodic and dark/dissonant at the same time. Usually, when I am listening to similar music, it sounds like something missed…probably, the vocals. But in this case, everything sounds self-sufficient. Powerful and massive work. Enjoy the music and stand with Ukraine!
